• The dream of new play areas for Chickerell is fast becoming a reality.

Plans for a multi-use games area and children’s play area are being drawn up by Chickerell Town Council. Subject to planning permission, the two areas will be sited on Willowbed Field, which is owned and managed by the town council.

Chickerell@Play has successfully raised £9,000 towards the £175,000 scheme, exceeding it’s target by £1,000. The rest of the funding is coming through Dorset County Council, West Dorset District Council and Chickerell Town Council with additional funds from C G Fry & Sons’ contributions towards community facilities to support future developments.

Chickerell Mayor John Worth said: “It is wonderful how hard everyone has worked to raise money for these exciting community projects and I congratulate the Chickerell@Play group.

“However it is very important that all residents feel included in these plans. The town council will be exhibiting drawings and explaining how the two facilities will be responsibly and sensitively managed to fit in with everyone’s needs.

“We need to work with everyone on this and will be actively publicising our plans so people can have a say.”

Julie Cleaver and Leanne Carter of Chickerell@Play said: " The support from the local community has been outstanding - children as young as four through to one older resident who donated his 90th birthday present money of £150 to the fundraising team. “Everyone is now looking forward to enjoying the new recreation facilities in Chickerell.

“Thank you to everyone who has supported, donated and attended the many events which have been held."
