THE new name of a private nursing home in Weymouth, which specialises in the provision of care for sufferers of Alzheimer's and dementia, was officially unveiled as The Queen Charlotte Care Home by the Mayor of Chickerell Councillor Jean Dunseith on Tuesday August 3.

Formerly known as Montevideo House, the new name is part of a £500,000 makeover instigated under the new ownership and management of the Kingsley Healthcare Group – a successful care home operator with homes across East Anglia, Essex, Bedfordshire and Dorset.

The royal name is appropriate for the Grade II listed building as it was reputed to once have been the residence of Queen Charlotte, the wife of George III.

Visitors and residents witnessed the Mayor of Chickerell commemorate the name by planting a tree in the care home's landscaped garden.

Visitors also had the opportunity to meet the management team, tour the facilities on offer, indulge in a Dorset cream tea and enjoy musical talent from Michael Wooldridge, one of England's top electronic and theatre organists.

Care Home Manager Mark Beech said: "We were delighted at the attendance of the Mayor of Chickerell to reveal our new name and celebrate with our residents and visitors.

"With a proven reputation across the care home sector, the acquisition of The Queen Charlotte Care Home 12 months ago complements the group's existing care home portfolio which offers residential, nursing as well as dementia, day and respite care for vulnerable people."

Cllr Dunseith added: "It gave me great pleasure to unveil the new name of this care home.

"The building is very elegant and is a landmark for local people and residents are obviously happy and enjoy the highest standard of care.

"Very well done to the new management and especially to Mark Beech for leading the team and setting new standards for the care of residents with dementia.

"This is a delightful care home in charming surroundings.

"I enjoyed planting the tree and hope it grows to maturity providing years of shade and enjoyment for residents."
