TO celebrate one year of successful fundraising Chickerell@Play are holding a village tea party.

The 10.10.10 tea party will take place in the Willowbed Hall on Sunday, October 10, 2.30pm-4.30pm.

Residents and families are invited to go along and join in the fun, which will include face painting, arts and crafts, children’s entertainment and hand-made cup cakes and tea.

Helping to organise the event is Emma Scott, the leader of YouFirst Youth Forum from Chickerell, who are working hard to raise £6,000 towards community seating at the Willowbed field. All funds raised from the tea party will be donated towards their project. Emma Scott of West Dorset District Council said: “I have been really impressed with the determination and energy of the young people of YouFirst and I am sure that with the support of the community they will reach their target of £6,000 to pay for community seating which will benefit everyone visiting the Willowbed recreation area.”

Chickerell Town Council will have a stand at the event to display the plans for the play area and multi-use games area and residents will get the chance to speak to a representative from Monster Play, the contractors for the project.

Chickerell Mayor, Councillor Jean Dunseith, said: “In it’s year of life Chickerell@Play have raised £10,000 towards the £175,000 scheme which is a fantastic amount of money and the young people of Chickerell can look forward to an exciting new play area which they can take pride in and enjoy. I will be celebrating their achievement together with my fellow town councillors and council staff, without whose help and support this outstanding venture would not have been possible”. The town council has applied for planning permission for the multi-use games area and is in the process of preparing a drainage scheme for the field.

Julie Cleaver from Chickerell@Play said: “Plans are progressing well for the play facilities. The town council has applied for planning permission for the games area and we are encouraging everyone in Chickerell to drop in and take a look over a cup of tea and a cup cake”.
