MAYORS, Chairman and escorts from around the County descended on Chickerell for the day last week when the Mayor of Chickerell’s Civic Day took place.

The chain gang, as they are known, started the day with a short talk by Coun John Dean on the history of Chickerell. The Mayor of Chickerell, Coun Jean Dunseith, then officially opened the new Chickadees Nursery at Chickerell Primary School along with two of her guests West Dorset District Council’s chairman, Coun Ronald Coatsworth, and the High Sheriff of Dorset, The Hon T J Palmer.

The party was then escorted around Chickerell Primary School by members of the school council before being treated to a truly spectacular performance from their gymnastics team! Luckily they were blessed with a sunny day for a walk to St Mary’s Church where they listened to a very informative talk about the history of the church given by the Reverend M Lee.

After lunch at the Marquis of Granby they visited the Ponderosa UK Stud for a tour of their brand new premises. The visit finished with tea and cake.

The Mayor of Chickerell, Coun Mrs Jean Dunseith said: “It was a wonderful day and it was a pleasure to welcome everyone to Chickerell on such a sunny day. A lot of the visitors didn’t know where Chickerell was whilst some were returning for a second time. It was an honour and a delight to visit and officially open the Chickadees Nursery, the children were all perfectly behaved and I wish it every success for the future.

“The Primary School thrilled us all with their amazing gymnastics routine and showed how talented and well behaved the children are.”
