Walkers on Willowbed Field won’t get stuck in the mud so often following the installation of new drains. Work started on Monday, November 15 to lay new pipes to take away rainwater from this area. Whilst the work was progressing the contractors discovered a natural spring which has been continuously pumping out water making the bottom corner of the field very wet and muddy. Pipes have been laid in this area so the water will now drain away.
The work will prepare the Putton Lane site for a new children’s play area and a multi-use games court.
The work was carried out by Dorset expert drainage contractor, Forum Civil Engineering of Blandford. The company was been appointed by Chickerell Town Council which owns and manages the field.
Chickerell Mayor Jean Dunseith said: “Regular users will know how boggy this ground can get, particularly in winter. The new drains will improve the site for the proposed children’s play area and multi use games court. However I’m hoping that all users of the field such as walkers and footballers, will find it improves their enjoyment of this lovely space as well.”
There will be a tombola, a cake stall, book stall, hamper raffle and refreshments.
At 11am there will be a performance from the alcapello group, Avalon, who are steadily making a name for themselves in the Weymouth area.
Do go along and join them on the day.

The weather was absolutely awful but it didn’t dampen their spirits and they made the most of the shopping! The Mayor of Chickerell, Councillor Jean Dunseith, waved them off.
