A SENSE of community will be apparent this month when churches come together to organise a family fun day.

Churches Together on Portland is organising an event which will take place on Officer’s Field, Portland, on Sunday, May 15.

The free event will include lunch, a bouncy castle and an open air service.

The event is taking place during Pentecost.

A similar event was held last year on Officer’s Field which attracted more than 300 people.

The Revd Christopher Briggs, from the Portland Methodist Circuit, is encouraging people to save the date in their diaries.

He said: “This is the second one on this particular site. We have done a number of fun days in various locations and open air events over the past few years.

“We will follow the same kind of format as last year. It happens during the Festival of Pentecost.

“In terms of the Bible, that’s when the disciples went out and shared good news and that was outside.

“There will be things like a bouncy castle. There will be lunch provided. We will also have an open air church service.

“It’s an opportunity for the church to gather. It’s an opportunity for the community to gather and both to have a bit of fun outside and enjoy themselves.”

Officer’s Field is just behind IPACA’s Osprey Campus. The event will be open to all between 11am and 2pm.

The Revd Briggs said: “Churches Together is just over 10 years old. It combines quite often with the Church in Weymouth and is part of REFRESH.

“Churches Together on Portland is very active on Portland. It’s responsible for things including the Foodbank and a whole number of other events and we represent the church on Portland as well.

“It’s fun, there’s food and it’s free. Come along. Anything that builds communities and relationships is really good value for everyone.”
