WITH the end of the football season, Crossways FC have once again had a marvellous season and have crowned their achievements with the league two championship title. The last six games saw the team on a winning streak including a satisfying win over the hot favourites Upwey & Broadwey.

  • Much to the surprise of the pundits, Crossways took the honours from that match with a hard fought win. Team manager Brian Stoodley and club chairman Alan Brown are justifiably proud of the squad's achievements and a memorable season.
  • Other impressive scorelines saw a five goals to one victory over Child Okeford who were ahead in the league. This was followed by a four goal to one defeat of Witchampton First team.
  • The team has only conceded five matches during the whole season and have gained automatic promotion to league division one. There is a great feeling of village pride in this achievement.
  • Alan pays tribute not only to the efforts of the team but to all in the village who have supported in many ways. The games at the Dick O'Th Banks playing field have gained in popularity with good crowds of vocal supporters getting behind the squad.
  • CONGRATULATIONS to the football team were echoed by the members of the tavern social club. A provisional date of 31 May has been set for the presentation evening with a disco and light buffet to follow. Confirmation of the date will be on posters up and around the village.
  • The tavern hosts weekly line dancing sessions for villagers on Tuesday evenings and these are set to continue throughout the summer from 7.30 to 10.00pm. I am told it is a great evening and you get a little gentle exercise into the bargain as well. Those curious to find out more are welcome to pop in and see.
  • CLIVE MOORE our area youth worker is concerned that residents of the village are unaware of the range of activities going on at the youth centre in Old Farm Way. As with all our village organisations, new faces are always welcome and a selection of interesting things await those who go along.
  • On Mondays and Thursdays the centre is open from 7.00 to 9.30pm for the 13-19 age range. On Tuesdays the Majorettes (all ages) meet and on Friday from 6.30 - 9.00pm the 8 - 13 year olds are catered for.
  • With the lighter summer evenings, activities spread out onto the field which lies alongside the building. Some of the things planned include a bungee run, Xways factor', football, rounders, bad fashion night', barbecue and lots more.
  • Clive adds that the youth centre would be very glad on any helpers with some spare times in the evening. If you fancy a challenge and would consider working with young people why not have a chat with Clive on 01305 853567.
  • AN APPEAL is being made for collators for the parish magazine. Once a month a team of local residents produces and staples the 1,400 copies which are delivered free to every house in the area.
  • It runs on volunteer help and an annual appeal to the readers for donations as well as advertisements in its pages. One or two long serving members of the team have recently retired and the search is on for kind hearted people to help.
  • Anyone able to spare up to two hours usually on the last Thursday of the month would be made good use of. Even if only able to help now and again it would help. Please contact Tony Walton on 01305 853437.
