MORETON Church flower festival has taken place over the Whitsun bank holiday weekend for many years now. It is an annual fund raiser and brings many visitors to the delightful church of St. Nicholas.

  • ORGANISER Carol Gibbens has let me know that the final amount raised was nearly £2,150 only a little less than last year. This was in spite of the most appalling weather which threatened to washout the stalls.
  • A DEDICATED team of helpers worked very hard with crafts, tombola, plants and cakes. The weekend was crowned with a special songs of praise service when favourite hymns were sung.
  • ANOTHER Perennial favourite is the all age worship service held in the church known as morepraise. The next service is at 6.00pm on Sunday, 14th July and is a pets service. It is held outside and you can bring a pet who is either real or artificial and it is suggested that a rug or folding chair would also help.
  • A MUSICAL treat at the church at lunchtime on Saturday, 13th July. At 12 noon a visiting choir of young singers has agreed to put on an extra concert in the church. Entry is free but there will be a retiring collection in aid of the fund to build a new church in Crossways,
  • JAZZ is coming to Moreton in the form of Eileen Guppy and Sue Parish. They are performing in concert for the friends of St. Nicholas Church on Saturday, 26th July at 7.00pm. Tickets are available on the door priced £5 which includes a glass of wine.
  • SUMMER term for the Frome Valley first school and Crossways playgroup is rapidly drawing to its end with only a few weeks left. Children from the playgroup who are moving on to school enjoyed an afternoon to look around and give them an idea of what to expect in September.
  • THEY enjoyed a pleasant walk from the village hall to the school with their leaders and soon were joined by members of the reception class who had been their friends when they had been at playgroup with them the previous year.
  • CHILDREN leaving the playgroup are having a special celebration on an afternoon before the end of term but it is rather a secret surprise at the moment. For all children there will be a special party on the last day which is Friday, 18th July.
  • FROME Valley first school summer production is the popular story of Annie' with performances to be held in the village hall. If they are of the same high quality as previous shows then parents and friends of the school are in for a treat. They can be seen on Friday, 11th July; Monday, 14th July and Wednesday, 16th July.
  • COMMUNITY support officer Vickie Hedges of Dorset Police has asked that villagers remain vigilant when dealing with callers at the door. There has been another attempt to get one of our senior residents to agree to bogus repair work. If you are in any doubt then please contact the police.
  • Vickie and PC Charlie Dale will be available every Friday from 2.30 to 4.00pm in the library in Old Farm Way. They are able to listen to your queries and concerns and give practical advice and guidance.
  • MAGNA housing have also introduced an advice surgery and this runs in the village hall. The next one takes place on Tuesday, 8th July from 2.00 - 4.00pm. You can pick up leaflets, applications for housing or garages, termination forms, mutual exchange forms or speak to a customer services officer. Enquiries can be made on 01305 216070.
