VILLAGE Club was treated to an excellent presentation by Sue Hennessy on ‘Hidden Depths – Women of the RNLI’- she was fresh from Virginia, where she had given her talk to the American Coastguards. Women have been deeply involved in the RNLI for over 180 years; not, it is true, as crew members (they are now – even as coxswain & helmsman) but as the muscles - heaving the boats up and down beaches for launch/recovery, also in the more recognised tea making, fund raising and moral support.

Villagers Bewildered.

4:51pm Wednesday 26th January 2011

WE ARE all bewildered by the decision of the ‘Powers-that-be’, to turn down the plans for replacing the eyesore of The Bungalow at the entrance of the village, with an attractive dwelling, keeping the ‘look’ of the old building on the roadside, but digging out at the rear to give the extra space in the ‘basement’ area, out of sight.

THANKS for a lovely ‘special birthday’ party Fay! Good company, good food, good wine, all enhanced by the still decorated hall –we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did – we look forward to 10 years time! Well done all those who worked to make it a success.

BE careful what you wish for!

4:55pm Tuesday 4th January 2011

WHAT a white Christmas! It certainly looked beautiful but my goodness wasn’t it icy? – the village roads were skating rinks, with ONE spread of grit on a couple of lanes in 3 weeks. Earlier, DDC promised we would have a dump of grit at one of the farms but it never materialised, so even when some stalwarts did some clearing (using hammers to break the ice before shovelling it up!) it was privately bought grit that then made for safe walking. Thank you to all those concerned.
