• VILLAGE Club was treated to an excellent presentation by Sue Hennessy on ‘Hidden Depths – Women of the RNLI’- she was fresh from Virginia, where she had given her talk to the American Coastguards.

Women have been deeply involved in the RNLI for over 180 years; not, it is true, as crew members (they are now – even as coxswain & helmsman) but as the muscles - heaving the boats up and down beaches for launch/recovery, also in the more recognised tea making, fund raising and moral support.

The fundraising is hugely important as all monies come from donations, wills, sales, lifeboat days etc – nothing from the State, this is for everything, from the most modern lifeboat to the provision of beach lifeguards.

Sue is an accomplished speaker & has unearthed some fascinating stories for her book, if you see she is at a venue near you, do go along and hear for yourselves!

  • SATURDAY, March 19th at 11am, there is a ‘Brunch & Coffee Morning with Bacon Butties’ at the Village Hall – there will be the usual stalls: cakes, books, plants & bric-a-brac, all in aid of the Village Hall.
  • AFTER your fill of pancakes on Tuesday, we enter the season of Lent – the Ash Wednesday service is a Joint Benefice in St Nicholas, Abbotsbury at 7.00pm.

The first of the Lent Safari Hunger Lunch & Talk will be on Monday, March 14th at 12.30 - the talks are a series, but can be accessed can separately, so please join us when you can.
