• Some years ago the Waterside Holiday Park applied for planning permission for a change of use of their existing touring caravan site to use by 45 static caravans.

This was turned down, and the subsequent appeal result on 11 November 2008 upheld that decision.

Another planning application has now been submitted for the erection of 28 safari tents for tourist use on this same site, which is at the rear of the Holiday Park, bounded on two sides by the lower end of Church Lane.

In fact seven tents were installed on the site some time ago, as work started in July 2012.

The safari tents, have three bedrooms, a living/dining/kitchen area and shower and toilet facilities.

The roofs and walls are made of dark green/drab olive canvas, though some inside areas have timber cladding.

They would be occupied on the same basis as the touring caravans i.e. between 1 March one year to 15 January the following year.

However, unlike the touring caravans which had to be off site for the six or so unoccupied weeks, the safari tents would remain in situ.

Full details of the application can be found on the excellent W&PBC Planning Website under WP/14/00153/FUL, or by visiting the Borough offices.

If you would like to comment on the application - or perhaps more correctly retrospective application, as seven tents have been up for well over a year - then you have until Tuesday 1 April to do so.

• David Langridge tells me that plans for the Sunday 29 June Sutton Poyntz Victorian Street Fayre are well underway.

The village stalls need items to sell - unopened or unused gifts; jewellery, posh hats, scarves, handbags; garden accessories, tools, seeds; good quality paperbacks/hardbacks, DVDs, jigsaws, board games; wedding finery such as posh frocks, hats and wedding accessories; small carry away wooden items suitable for repainting as shabby chic furniture.

Of course they also need an army of volunteers who can help on the day, and Jane Young (833408) is co-ordinating helpers.

If you can assist, even just for a couple of hours, please give Jane a ring. One last thing. Put the date in your diary, for this always a great day out for all the family, with entertainment and loads to see and do.
