Wyke Christmas helps fund local projects

  • “I’M DREAMING of a Wyke Christmas”. At a recent meeting the organising committee for this event decided to make a grant of £800 to the Memorial Hall and a further grant of £200 to the Friends of Wyke Gardens.

Anyone who has passed by Wyke Gardens recently will have noticed all the work the friends have carried out. The garden is looking loved and cared for.

Both these projects have a small dedicated group of friends at present and will welcome offers of help from anyone interested.

No gardening skill is required to be a friend of Wyke Gardens, just a keenness to help and a little spare time.

  • SMALL works are now being carried out at the Memorial Hall in Wyke and it is beginning to look much more cared for.

A small group is being formed to put together bids for grants to help towards the refurbishment. Offers to help with this would be very welcome.

The organisers have once again been given a grant from the Wyke Christmas Street Fund and are also putting together a fund raising programme. They are planning to hold regular monthly table top sales on the second Saturday of every month starting on April 13, from 10am to noon. Help providing refreshments or organising the sales would be appreciated.

Tables cost £5 and can be booked by telephoning 01305 839747 or 01305 776958.

  • THE Yetties concert at St Edmunds last month was a sell out and raised nearly £600 for the church.

Next year the Yetties will retire after more than 40 years in the business but they have already handed St. Edmunds a contract for the second Saturday in February 2011.

It’s an historic last chance to see them perform and therefore a date to note if you’re a fan so you don’t miss it.

There are still some tickets available for the Collegium Regale concert due to take place on Thursday, April 15 beginning at 7.30pm in All Saints’ Church, Wyke Regis but to avoid disappointment you are advised not to delay in booking.

In previous years during the final weeks before the concert many people have left it too late. These concerts have always sold out before they take place.

Nevertheless it is also worth a try at the last minute if you can’t commit in advance.

The proceeds all go to fund the repairs of All Saints and St Edmunds. Tickets cost the same as last year at £11 each and include a complimentary glass of wine or a soft drink.

Additional parking is available this year at All Saints School. The entrance is on Portland Road to the side of the Health Centre.

To purchase or reserve your tickets phone 01305 750836 or 01305 785811.

  • PARENTS of 8 to16 year olds are reminded that Active Westham will be operating again this summer thanks to COPS, the Westham Community group which has been granted an award of £5000 from Communities for Health funding.

Details of the events offered to residents of any of the three Westham Wards can be obtained through Ryan Hope, the chairman of the Community group, or David Harris, the secretary, on 07794757558, or 781660.

Various day trips, sporting activities and community activities are on offer throughout the summer holidays.
