Fun and games for all

On Tuesday 3rd April Cadbury’s and Groundwork are presenting Spot vs. Stripes, an event to get everybody involved in fun and games.

We all know who Cadbury’s are but some may not be familiar with Groundwork.

Groundwork is a registered charity who have been working for the past 30 years to get communities involved in what’s going on around them. More often than not they get people involved in improving a piece of land, making gardens, allotments or play areas for the benefit of everyone living nearby.

Starting at 12 noon and finishing around 2.30pm on the ground between the library and the church there will a range of games to play for ALL AGES and ALL ABILITIES. In short everyone can join in!

From giant Jenga to sack races and dodgeball to table tennis there’s going to be a lot of fun and games for all.

Just make up your mind which side you want to be on, Spots or Stripes and take on the competition!

Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

You don’t need to be reminded that the Olympics are not far away but here is an opportunity for you to take part in a once in a lifetime experience on the run up to the big event.

The Battle For The Winds is a spectacular and breathtaking outdoor performance with ensembles from the seven counties of the west country. Taking place over three days in and around Weymouth and Portland this unforgettable experience culminates in an awe inspiring finale on Weymouth beach.

Ten volunteers from this area are being sought to be part of the spectacular finale which will involve 2012 people, carrying fire torches, wading out sea up to their waists to represent the releasing of the winds for the start of the Olympic sailing events.

If you would like to be one of the torch bearers and have something to tell your grandchildren about in years to come then please get in contact with Jan Hinton on 834126.

The fire torches will be made by a reputable pyrotechnics company and will conform to safety standards.

For health and safety reasons applicants must be over 18 years old. The 20 is plenty campaign is up and running again as you no doubt have noticed the bright yellow signs up on lampposts.

There is also currently a petition going round to restrict the speed of vehicles in Culliford Way, Bayard Road, Bincombe Rise and Canberra Road.

Since the building of the new Littlemoor Road these streets are being used a ‘rat run’ and there is grave concern that drivers are travelling far too fast in an area where there are always lots of children.
