Congratulations to Littlemoor resident Nathan Briggs who won the advanced apprentice of the year award  at the Yeovil College and North Dorset Technical College Apprenticeship Awards.
Nathan, who works for Dorset County Council’s IT department, has been praised by the staff there for completing his work to an exceptional standard and maintaining progress throughout his training, reaching such a standard that he is now mentoring the second apprentice in his cohort.
Nathan said,“I decided to do an Apprenticeship after finishing my degree because I knew I wanted to work in IT and the Apprenticeship looked like the perfect first step towards that. The course in general sounded good and I’d done a lot of theory before, but I wanted to get a job in the sector and work experience. The Apprenticeship was my way into IT. I’m very grateful to Dorset County Council for giving me the opportunity to progress in my career.”

I was in the chemist a few weeks ago and picked up an Age Concern leaflet for a nail cutting service for the over 50’s.
The service is aimed at simple toe nail cutting  for those of us “older” folk who find reaching our toes a bit of a challenge. It is however unsuitable for people with diabetes, on warfarin or steroids.
The service is in high demand and there are very few places at the Littlemoor Surgery. However if you can manage to travel it is also held at The Bridges surgery in town.
The cost is £11 for the purchase of your own personal equipment and £11 per session.
So if you can no longer cope with cutting your own toenails this non profit making service is very reasonably priced and the ideal solution.
For further information call Susan on 07971338120 or email nailcuttingpurbeck@acdorchester.org, or call Age UK in Dorchester on 01305 269444.

If the kids are at a loose end after school the library now offers a small selection of classic board games to while away an hour or so. Ludo, Snakes and Ladders, Guess Who and Connect Four are but a few of the selection.
And for those of you who would like to re-read some of the classics of literature, both English and American, like, for example, The 39 Steps, Pollyanna or The Little House on The Prairie, the library is holding a varied selection at the moment.
