The mid September coffee morning at St Francis Church wasn’t as well attended as usual but £127 was still raised to buy plants for the church gardens.
The event was organised by the over 60’s club and willing volunteers manned stalls selling books, bric a brac, cakes and refreshing cups of tea and coffee.
Their next coffee morning will be in November - the date has yet to be fixed.
The usual tea, coffee, cakes and biscuits will be on sale as well as mince pies - a timely reminder that Christmas isn’t that far away!
The over 60’s club is also looking for new members.
This friendly crowd meet every Wednesday from 2pm to 4.30pm in the function room at St Francis church.
There are raffles, a mini lottery and bingo to keep you entertained.
In the summer they have 2 or 3 coach trips, the last one was just up the road to Wool to savour the delicious fare at the Seven Stars pub and then a wander round the village to walk it off.
Come Christmas they have a festive feast at the Crown Hotel with live entertainment.
If you fancy joining this happy bunch then please don’t hesitate to call either Flo Dennis on 814585 or Prim Powell on 787350.
Retiring chairman Malcolm Beeson gave his report saying that the use of the community hall was in decline as the running costs continued to escalate.
But those few groups who still made use of the hall flourished, he said, and it was hoped that the committee could find a way of keeping the hall open for the remaining users.
Outgoing treasurer John Ellis reported that the LCAG was facing a bleak future as the charity made a substantial loss last year.
But he said he had faith in Littlemoor and felt that things could be turned around.
Nominations for the new committee were then read out and duly elected.
It was noted with some relief that all seats were now filled and the LCAG could face the next year with optimism despite the hard work ahead.
Although the committee was now full, no one wanted, at this point in time, to take over the role of chairman.
Malcolm Beeson then offered to remain in that post until Christmas or until someone came forward.
The future of the community hall was then discussed and it was agreed that a new one was sorely needed.
The present hall, hidden out of sight behind surrounding housing will never be used to it’s full potential.
It needed to be in a more prominent site.
Therefore the proposed site between the library and the church needed to be utilised.
A building in full view was more likely to be used and so a vote was passed to make every effort to get a building, however humble at present, erected on that site. Secretary Gill Paterson then presented flowers to the chairman’s and treasurer’s wives for losing their husbands whilst they worked for the LCAG.
Malcolm Beeson closed the meeting by thanking everyone who has helped in the past and to those who had donated equipment. Special thanks went to Colin of Canberra Road for the recent donation of amplifiers, a public address system and radio microphones.
