Littlemoor

Treats for the troops

The Littlemoor Bingo Club is well known for it’s charitable deeds.

Proceeds from raffles and from bingo itself are donated to local charities and those less well off.

But with Christmas not that far away, this year they want to help our servicemen who will be on duty in Afghanistan whilst we are safe at home with our families.

They have raised £300 and plan to make up as many boxes for the troops as they can to send off.

So if you have anyone serving in the forces who will be away from home this Christmas and you think they would appreciate a box to cheer them up and let them know we’re all thinking of them, then please contact Betty Taylor at 29 Canberra Crescent DT3 6AQ stating the persons name, rank, who they are serving with and where they are stationed.

All applications must arrive by 22nd October at the latest as the boxes are due to be collected for shipping on the 23rd.

And a reminder that Littlemoor Bingo Club is held fortnightly at the community hall. The next ’eyes down’ session will be on Friday the 23rd at 7.30pm and everyone is welcome.

  • Last Monday saw the first auction held at the community hall off Canberra Road and it was hailed a success by those who attended.

Mainly domestic items went under the hammer, things like patio heaters, power tools, foot spa’s and printers were sold to a small group of bidders.

Some items sold for as little as £1.

With such bargains to be had it won’t be long before this becomes a popular event in the Littlemoor calendar.

The next auction will be on Monday 26th October.

Viewing starts around 6.30 and the auction will begin at 7.00pm.

Bidding cards are 50p, monies raised from the sale of these goes towards the community hall.

If you have items you’d like sold at the auction then take them along on the day from 10.30am.

  • If you have children under the age of five then Littlemoor library may have just the thing for you.

Every Tuesday morning from 11.15 til midday the ‘Library Gets Lively’.

For all children under five and their parents or carers there will be singing and stories and other fun activities.

Go along and meet other parents and carers while your children have some fun and get introduced to the world of books and storytelling.

Just turn up or phone 834718 for further details

  • The next coffee morning to be held at St Francis Church will be on 28th November from 10.00am til midday.

Apart from tea, coffee and mince pies there will be a tombola and raffle and stalls selling cakes and books.

I shall remind you again nearer the date.
