The sun comes out for family fun day.

The police tug of war team take on Synergy. The police tug of war team take on Synergy.

Things were not looking good for the Fantastic Family Fun Day on the Saturday 20th. Just ten minutes before the grand opening the heavens were still chucking it down. Everybody was prepared to continue under canvas and the marquees were in readiness.

The event was opened by councillor Mark Tewkesbury and County councillor Andy Cooke then presented a bouquet of flowers to Angela Gould of Synergy Housing for all the hard work she has put in over the last nine weeks.

Still under a cloudy sky the Zumba dancers entertained the crowd with an energetic display which had everyone clapping to the beat and tapping their feet.

Then the sun came out and so did everyone in Littlemoor, the Top Club field was one happy throng of people having a great time.

The Second Edition Majorettes of Portland gave two dazzling displays and then invited onlookers to ‘have a go’.

The Wessex Karate Club followed that with an impressive display of martial arts skills.

Throughout the afternoon the MC Marky Jay kept everyone entertained and proved very popular as did Loz Because with an amazing show of Hula Hoops and juggling.

Apart from the free rides the highlight of the afternoon was the tug of war. The police took on teams from Synergy and Project Amour to the cheers of the crowd.

The police took an active part all day allowing children into their riot van and taking their fingerprints for not keeping their bedrooms tidy!

Cookery Tony’s cook your own omelette stall proved popular as did the face painting.

The cream tea stall run by the LCAG nearly sold out but the cake stall and lucky dip had sold out by 4pm.

All the stalls were kept busy throughout the afternoon and a big thank you goes to Weldmar, Leonard Cheshire Foundation and the Alzheimer’s Society for joining us on the fun day.

Six fun packed hours went by all too quickly under a blazing sun and the consensus of opinion was, “let’s do it again next year!”

With many thanks to Synergy Housing for making the event possible and to the Neighbourhood Panel and the team of volunteer helpers . A special thank you goes to Lisa Cooper and her team of youngsters, Project Amour, for so much help setting up and clearing away afterwards.

A quick reminder to all young readers taking part in this years Reading Circus challenge that the final date for completion is Saturday 10th September.
