Martinstown

THERE are truly some most talented flower arrangers in our village of Martinstown for I found it a sheer delight to see their hard work displayed within our St Martin’s Church on the special occasion of Harvest Thanksgiving.

I gather the Harvest supper was a great success, though given its theme it proved somewhat difficult to recognise the participants shrouded in their colourful ponchos and sombreros.

THE Valley Club are holding a Barn Dance on Friday, October 9, 8pm-11.30pm in the village hall in aid of the Fortuneswell Cancer Trust.

Tickets, available from the village shop, are £10 for members and £12 for non-members, which includes a ploughmans supper. There will be a bar and a raffle.

IF there are any bridge or whist players with time on their hands they would be welcomed with open arms at the Steepleton Manor care home.

The residents love to play but do not have enough numbers, so here is an opportunity of helping to give them a wonderful time and moreover to show that they are not forgotten members of our Valley community.

Volunteers should contact Jackie Wrighton on 01305 889316.

WE are nearly all guilty of having a good moan or two and maybe not quite so swift to give praise where it is due.

Especially when some authority is involved, in this particular case the West Dorset District Council.

Recently the large refuse collection lorry found it impossible to reach the end of the road to empty the dustbins, due to a large parked trade’s vehicle, so you would imagine it would end there.

I was debating whether to bring my bags in until the following week when out came a smaller van to finish the collection. I was very impressed, so many thanks to WDDC.

MAKE a note of Friday, November 28, for it’s when the Valley Club are having a Social Evening, with carols, mulled wine, mince pies and the Dorchester Community Choir.
