THOSE of us who are lucky enough to be grandparents can truly imagine the pride with which Margaret and Terry glowed when they learnt that Thomas had been awarded the title of Young Scientist of the Year.

It was no surprise to many of us to learn that his chosen topic was the Coastal Erosion of West Dorset, for Thomas was introduced to the South West Coastal Path at a very early age.

Many of the original Martinstown Mileaters will remember Thomas valiantly trying to adjust his shorter legs to those Mileater giant strides. He coped extremely well although some stretches are almost too painful to remember and that does not just go for him when one thinks of the never ending steps near Chapmans Pool or Hounds Tout to mention just a couple.

IT is still amazing how generously people can contribute to the many good causes, especially when most of us are a bit strapped for cash in the present financial climate.

When ninety-year-old Ted Ingram announced that he was too old for birthday presents he little knew how great the response would be when he requested that donations be made to Cancer Care.

At the last count this amounted to an amazing sum of £300.

The other example of generosity took place at the two evenings of entertainment provided by those with unsuspected talents within our own Valley community.

I understand that it resulted in the magnificent sum of £800, which will ensure that the necessary electrical work and refurbishment of stage curtains of our village hall.

SADLY the Lenten Lunches have now come to an end.

Thanks from all of us to those who provided the food and did the washing up afterwards. Above all it was the bonus of the enjoyable company especially for those who live alone.

MARTINSTOWN WI will be holding their AGM at their next meeting in the village hall on Monday, April 12 at 7.45pm.

There will be the gastronomic attraction of delicious desserts provided by the committee, which should ensure a maximum turnout.
