Dewlish

CONGRATULATIONS to Jim Burg, Adam White and Ed Uden for raising the magnificent sum of £1,258 by taking part in the Dorset Historic Churches Trust Cycle Ride in September.

Dewlish Church received £629, half the sum raised. Well done, you did really well!

  • THE church bazaar will be held on Saturday, December 6 in the village hall from 2.30pm.

Donations for the raffle or stalls will be gratefully received, but the most important thing to bring is yourselves, just come along and enjoy some shopping without having to travel miles!

There are always lots of good things to buy and there will also be children’s activity stall.

  • CAROL singing around the village will be on Thursday, December 18 starting from the crossroads at 6.30pm.

Wrap up warm, bring a torch and come and join in, the more singers the better.

The collection will be in aid of Shelter.

  • DESPITE the dreadful weather Dewlish Cricket Club put on a marvellous show of fireworks for their bonfire night celebrations.

The display had to be cancelled on November 1 because of bad weather, but luckily the rain held off on the following Saturday, well it held off until the bonfire was lit and we were all there waiting!

Thanks to all those brave souls who supported it, and hopefully you didn’t go home too wet.

The main thanks however must go to all the helpers who worked so hard to make it such a success.

  • HOW wonderful to hear that two boys from Dewlish have won places at the fifth International Junior Science Olympiad, to be held in Korea this year.

Lawrence Whatley and Edward Godfrey are to be part of a six-strong UK team of young scientists and will be spending 10 days in December as the guests of the Korean government, competing against teams of young people from all over the world.

However, the boys need to raise quite a sum of money to cover airfares etc and will be hosting a quiz night and raffle to raise money for this. Go along to support them on Saturday, November 29 at the Frampton Arms in Moreton.

For more details or to donate any money or raffle prizes, please contact Lesley Whatley on 01258 837775.

Milborne St Andrew

DASP First Schools Football Festival was hosted again this year at Milborne St Andrew First School.

Sixteen teams competed in the tenth Dorchester area first schools Year 3 / 4 football festival.

The children also celebrated nine years of Ray Preston’s contribution. He is retiring after umpiring every festival since its start in 1999.

  • PUPILS from Milborne First School held a talent show to raise nearly £130 for Children in Need, performing songs, dances and jokes in front of an audience of pupils, staff and parents.

Later that day several pupils travelled up to Basingstoke with their local Stagecoach group to perform with X Factor 2007 finalists ’Same Difference’ in BBC South as part of the Children in Need Celebrations.
