THE children at Milborne St Andrew First School had some special visitors for their assembly on Friday, January 29.

Mr Wrigley and Mr Betts from the Dorchester Rotary Club visited to talk to the children, staff and parents about their work helping people in Haiti.

Mr Wrigley led an assembly in which the children took an active part.

He answered questions about the essential needs of the people and explained what the money raised would buy.

A ShelterBox kit contains a 10-person tent, a water purification system and other survival necessities.

They cost approximately £480 each.

One of the tents was erected in the school hall and the children were able to go in and see what it would be like for a family of ten to live in it.

Resources were also given to the school to enable staff to follow up discussions in the classroom.

So far the children have raised £118 from a cake sale and they will be running an after school jazz club over the next two weeks to help raise more money.

All the proceeds will go to the joint venture between Thomas Hardye School and the Rotary Clubs of Dorchester Haiti Earthquake Appeal.
