A FANTASTIC turnout for the Milborne St Andrew First School’s ‘Ground Force Day’ on Saturday, April 23 over 30 volunteers participated throughout the day.

The work carried out has saved the school several hundreds of pounds as they used their skills to renovate the schools playhouses, bird tables, planters and outdoor furniture.

The playhouses in particular were in a bad state of repair and they now look as good as new.

Part of the impact of this community project will be to support the curriculum focus on improving our environment through recycling, reusing and reduction.

Parents, pupils past and present, governors and volunteers from the community turned up throughout the day to ‘do their bit’ and so there are several people to thank for the huge success of the day.

The school is also grateful to Poundbury Garden Centre for donating all of the compost for the planters and the Friends of the School for helping to plan and support the event through providing materials and refreshments for the volunteers and their families.

A big thank you to the staff (and their families!) who gave up their time and worked so hard on the day to brighten up the school’s outdoor equipment.

A job well done!

THE Milborne Players are back on stage in early June.

Rehearsals are well under way for another excellent production by the players.

‘Charades’ is an evening of adult, one act plays which consists of ‘Work in Progress’ written by Damian Trasler and directed by Melva Coe and ‘My Blue Heaven’ by Colin Calvert and directed by Bill Preston.

There will be performances on two evenings, June 11 and 12, doors open at 7.15pm and curtain up is at 7.45pm.

As ever a bar and refreshments will be available.

The Players productions are always extremely popular so it’s not a good idea to leave ticket buying to the last minute – most performances are sold out well in advance, so don’t delay.

Tickets (£6.50 Adults, concessions £5) are available from Sid Coe on 01258 837453 or from the Londis Store in Milborne.
