THE Royal Oak in Milborne are going to be hosting a Charity Car Boot Sale on Sunday 20th March in aid of a very good cause – the Ectodermal Dysplasia Society.

Very few people have heard of this charity, but it has been chosen by The Royal Oak because of a young lad who lives in the village.

James Macnair is 3 years old and will be going to Milborne First School in September.

He suffers from this rare condition that affects only about 400 families in the UK and has one of about 170 variations of the family of diseases called the Ectodermal Dysplasia’s.

The variation he has is X-linked Hypohydrotic Ectodermal Dysplasia.

In general, all the different variations have common elements:- it affects his ability to regulate his body temperature - he cannot sweat, so is at risk of overheating if it's too hot; and he gets very cold when it’s cold, and takes longer to warm up again.

It also affects his teeth - James has false teeth already and will need dentures in time.

His skin is affected too - it's very dry, he has thickened skin on the soles of his feet, and eczema is a feature.

Another problem is hair, he has only sparse, very blond and crinkly hair, and no eyebrows.

The aim of the sale is to raise some money for the society that supports James.

Spaces for sellers (£5) are very limited so please call to book.

Sellers are welcome from 9am with buyers (entry £1) welcome from 10am. For further information or to support this very good cause, please call The Royal Oak on 01258 837248.
