The details of Osmington’s homemade cake competition, OSBAKE 2013, have now been finalised.  It will take place on Saturday, August 3 at Osmington Village Hall.  To enter, complete an entry form and drop it into the mailbox at the Village Hall (fixed to porch post) or hand it in at The Sunray. .Entries need to be delivered at the Hall between 9.30 and 11.30am, with judging in the afternoon.  An independent panel of judges will taste all entries.
Prizes will be presented at the Osmington Fête on Sunday at 1.45pm.  You are encouraged to donate your cake to the cake stall after judging, to be sold at the Fête, but if you'd rather take it home for tea - that's fine!   Entry is free, so enter as many times as you like!  There are 4 classes in which to enter:
• Category 1 - Whole Cake: A whole cake of any type, of your choice.
• Category 2 – Traditional Victoria Sponge, to an exactly specified recipe.
• Category 3 – Six decorated cupcakes of your choice - any flavour or type, any decoration.
• Category 4 - Junior Baker (14 and under) - Cookies, buns, cupcakes – your choice!
For full details and entry forms, visit the Osmington website (www.osmington.info) or give Eileen a call on 833108.  Happy baking!

Of course, the bake-off is only one of the many attractions of this year’s fête, which runs from 12 to 4pm on Sunday, August 4.  There will be the usual fantastic selection of stalls at which to bag a bargain or to try your luck, a bouncy castle for the younger set, great food to keep you going, washed down with Osmington’s own White Horse beer, and of course, the celebrated Family Dog Show to give your pet the chance to show off its own talents.
St. Osmund’s beautiful church has a leaky roof, and your support at the fête is vital to raising enough cash to repair it, so bring all the family to have a great time in a good cause – and don’t forget the dog.

After the popular success of their show last year, the talented northern musical duo Howdenjones is coming back to Osmington Village Hall on Saturday, September 14 with their family friendly mixture of songs, tunes and stories.  Details are not yet firm, but save the date in your diary and watch the local media to get the latest news.
(If you missed last year’s gig, you can find out more about the performers by visiting their website www.howdenjones.co.uk.)
