OSMINGTON'S White Horse Restoration Project is one of five projects which have been shortlisted by English Heritage for one its prestigious 2013 Angel Awards for the best rescue of a listed building, scheduled monument, park, garden, battlefield or conservation area.    The other shortlisted projects in this category include Flodden battlefield, cemeteries in Yarmouth, a historic London pub and a castle in Durham.
The annual English Heritage Angel Awards, founded by Andrew Lloyd Webber and supported by the Telegraph, celebrate the efforts of local people who have saved historic buildings and places.   This year has seen lots of fantastic entries which were shortlisted in each of four categories by a panel of experts from the heritage sector.  The winner in each category will then be chosen by a panel of judges chaired by Andrew Lloyd Webber and announced at a ceremony on October 21, to which representatives of the project have been invited, and where short films of each project will be shown.  The results will be publicised in the Telegraph and other national media.
Local hopes will, of course, be for our project to win the prize but, even if it does not, the fact that it has made the shortlist in such distinguished company reflects enormous credit on all those who organised, helped with and supported the restoration of our hillside monument - and how good it now looks!

THE AGM of the Osmington Society this year is on Saturday, October 19, at 7 pm, in the Village Hall, and will be followed by bingo and a fish & chip supper.  The formal business of the evening will be over by 7.45 pm.  All the inhabitants of Osmington, The Mills, Poxwell and Upton are automatically members of this community society just by living here, so come to the AGM and give the committee your views on what activities you would like in the coming year and which village projects you would like to support.
The last bingo night was a great success - many people who had never played before found it good fun - so come and try your luck.  Of course, besides the fish & chips, there will be a bar.
Watch the Osmington website for prices.  The caterers need numbers in advance so please contact one of the committee or email secretary@osmington.info. if you are coming.

NOW in its sixth year, the Osmington Recorded Music Society meets in the pleasant surroundings of Osmington Village Hall, Shortlake Lane, on alternate Monday afternoons for musical presentations by members and guest speakers.  A members’ newsletter is produced three times a year.  Everyone is welcome, and the society is keen to encourage new members who would like to meet other people who enjoy sharing an interest in mainly, but not exclusively, classical music.
The 2013/14 season starts in October when the Society’s new President David McCririck will present the opening programme on Monday, 7th at 2.15pm, inviting members on a trip to the cinema with “Movie Matinee”.  Richard Searle from U3A is the guest speaker on Monday, October 21, when he will explore the music of Francis Poulenc.
Anyone requiring information about the society is invited to ring Peter or Heather Foster on 01305 262121 or e-mail heather.foster1@btinternet.co.uk
