The Osmington Society has held two very successful and enjoyable events so far this year. In May a wine tasting evening was led by Jacques de Cateret who has worked in the industry for more years than he cares to remember (or, indeed, can). He presented six wines, ranging from less to more expensive, and guests were able to make their own notes on them. This was followed by a cold buffet of cheeses and pâtés, with an opportunity to buy more of the wine. Fortunately, everyone was local and was able to stagger home safely.
On September 18, a private evening viewing of Athelhampton House was followed by a meal in the Long Hall. Most members took the opportunity to dress-up, and the men looked almost as splendid as the women. They were entertained by local musician Hedley Kaye who played during and after the meal, when the more adventurous joined in and sang while others danced. It was such an enjoyable evening that it is hoped to repeat it next year at another venue.
Don’t miss the next event! On Saturday, October 17, the society has invited Sarah Harbige, Dorset AONB’s project manager for the Ridgeway Project, to give a talk about the project in general, and the restoration of our White Horse in particular. There will be supper (bring your own wine), and it promises to be a sociable and interesting evening. Tickets cost £7 (£7.50 for non-members) and can be bought from Teresa Seall (01305 833830, or tms@smartrack.co.uk) or any other Os. Soc. committee member.
The society’s AGM is on Saturday, November 28 in the village hall and will be followed by the popular fun quiz. Details will be posted on the parish notice boards.
At the same time Peter Lockwood has had to relinquish the job of hall secretary, in which he has served with distinction for some years. He is leaving the area shortly, and will be greatly missed.
The new chairman of trustees is Mrs Sandra Jordan, assisted by Nigel Clarke as the new secretary. We wish them well and have every confidence that they will carry on the good work where Keith and Peter left off.
