SINCERE thanks are due to the gallant band of helpers who turned out for the parish’s roadside clean-up in April, as part of West Dorset’s annual campaign. A record team of 16, including 3 from the staff of PGL Osmington Bay, succeeded in clearing our roadsides of 21 sacks of unsightly rubbish. Well done.

  • COME along to the Indian Spring evening on Tuesday, May 11 in the village hall at 7.30pm, where Tim West and Marjorie Bandy have arranged a delicious menu of exotic curries, and there will also be an appropriately themed fun quiz. Oriental or Colonial dress is encouraged! Tickets are only £6.50 either from Marjorie (01305 772412, marjorie_b1@btinternet.com) or from the Team office at Preston church rooms. All profits go to benefit St. Osmund’s church
  • OSMINGTON’S recorded music society is well on its way to completing its second season. Since the society began in October 2008 it has enjoyed considerable success – more than its chairman dared to hope for when it started. Membership has grown steadily and attendances have kept up well, even in the worst weather of winter. Now there is only the AGM left, to be held on Monday, May 10, before the equipment is put to bed until October.

Looking back over recent meetings, members have enjoyed programmes from Peter Foster of Dorchester Hospital Radio with “Music in the Air - The History of Music Broadcasting”, and Joan and Geoff Linton of Shaftesbury’s “Music for Enjoyment Club”, with a programme of Mediterranean countries’ music inspired by a cruise. In April, Gilbert Satterthwaite presented “Sullivan without Gilbert” and Peter Stein, the society’s technical officer, hosted “Time and Place”, with music ingeniously chosen to reflect the programme’s title.

The AGM will be followed by “Last but not Least”, presented by Arthur and Margaret Werrett. Visitors and temporary members will be warmly welcomed, though only members can take part in AGM business. As always the meeting will begin at 2.15pm.

For more information about the Society, ring Brian Bishop on 833225, or e.mail him at blbishop@waitrose.com.

  • CAN you spare an hour or two to help keep our lovely parish church and its surroundings looking their best? If so, please turn up any time between 9.30am and noon on Saturday, May 22 to give a hand in the annual spring clean of St. Osmund’s church and churchyard. No special skill or experience is necessary, and equipment will be on hand (though gloves are advisable in the churchyard, and extra secateurs are always useful). Refreshments will be available, and a sociable atmosphere always prevails. Come and join us - all ages welcome!
