There are a few things happening at the Community Centre at Chelmsford Street, Weymouth that could do with a bit of extra support, so if you’re at a loose end, fancy making a few more friends, or just got nothing better to do perhaps, all as good a reason as any.

Waterside Singers are after some more singers, they say: - We are a friendly, cheerful group who meet every Monday at the Park Community Centre and are seeking new members. You don’t have to be able to sing or read music – in fact we were originally called “Can’t Sing Neither Can We”! We have great fun and always leave with a smile on our face, so come along and give it a go – you are assured of a warm welcome. We meet on Mondays from 2.15 – 3.30 p.m. (Just be aware if it is a bank holiday Monday then the choir won’t be meeting up that week)

Table Tennis. It doesn’t seem that long ago when Dave came bouncing along full of excitement about his ball delivery system (which left me grinning from ear to ear), but since then the group has now moved to 2 sessions a week but they really want to increase their membership as well. I had an email the other day saying the following “More members are wanted to keep our group going. We have two sessions of mixed abilities from real beginners upwards. Hopefully one or other of our sessions will suit you - Wednesday from 7.00 to 8.30 p.m. and Thursday from 12.00 to 2.00p.m. Come along to the Park Community Centre and for £1.50 a session give us a try - all equipment is supplied and you will be most welcome.”

And finally the Whist Club “Our Whist Club meets every Thursday at the Park Community Centre from 2.15 to 5.00pm for a friendly community game of cards. What with prizes to be won and coffee and biscuits at half time - what are you waiting for?”

Another reminder that the Community Quiz Night is once again about to  hit home, we now have a very basic league board on the community centre web site, (www.theparkarea.co.uk,) where you can see who won or came runners-up. Next community quiz is on Saturday May 16 from 7pm, same rules as always, you can come along by yourself and join a made up team on the night or come with a team ready for quizzing, it’s up to you, just remember its £3.50 per person, and this does include a delicious buffet.

Finally the AGM is on Wednesday May 13th at 7pm , it’s your chance to vote for who you want to run the Community Forum, or indeed if you wanted to join in and give it a go yourself, it’s probably a bit late now, but pop along to the centre and ask them down there what you need to do, we always need fresh faces, fresh ideas and fresh attitudes.

A word in from St Johns Church about their FunDay which is being held on Friday June 13.  I did say it was just a word, but a good excuse to pop it into your diary. The Waterside Singers have been asked to exercise their vocal chords once more.
