Park district
WELL, it seems we have all had our holidays, I really enjoyed mine, or stayed at home trying to find the good days on the beach, but life goes on and the Park Community Centre springs back to life.
We had a quiz last Saturday, won by the Useless four, not so useless it seems and a good night was had by all.
Thanks to John and Margaret Hutton for the questions, and everyone who brought some food along.
I would like to see more people coming along, you do not need to have a team of four, as we can make up teams on the night.
Even though you do not realise it we all store a lot of useful or maybe useless information, which comes in handy at the quiz nights.
Why not try it for yourselves.
Stretch, Relax and Breathe started on Monday, the Short Mat Bowls continues on Tuesdays and Art classes on Thursdays.
DO NOT FORGET that on Monday, September 28, we have the Forum/Pact meeting at 7pm.
The topics include Houses of Multiple Occupancy, Police Communications i.e. the 222222 number for none emergencies.
Please come early it could be a lively meeting, but please remember the speakers are giving up their spare time to speak to us.
ON Friday, October 2, 10am-3.30pm the Royal Crescent and Preston Road Practice are holding a women’s health and pamper day for patients to promote women’s health and provide information of local health services.
The event is timed to co-ordinate with breast cancer awareness.
As well as health information, there will be free beauty treatments provided by 'vie at home'.
There will be a nurse available to check blood pressures, do weights and BMIs and give general advice.
There will be a kid’s corner and tea and coffee.
The event is free but voluntary donations can be made to breast cancer research.
IT a busy weekend as the Forum are holding a Jumble Sale on Saturday, October 3, 10am-12pm.
Please come along for some bargains including computer equipment.
SO many people still do not seem to know exactly what goes on in the Park Community Centre, so we are holding an Open Morning on Saturday, October 10, 10.30am-1pm.
Please come along and see for yourself.
Tea/coffee and cakes will be on sale.
THE Forum offers various rooms for hire and FREE internet access during our opening hours Monday to Thursday, 10am-12pm, along with photo-copying.
If you have time to spare why not volunteer and we can open more hours.
I AM very surprised that the offer of a FREE half an hour consultation with Mustoe Shorter Solicitors has not been taken up by the residents.
All you have to do is call their office on 752700 and make an appointment.
STOP PRESS
THE Forum has just heard that we have obtained funding for a paid youth leader for our Wednesday night Youth Club.
So we are urgently looking for a suitable trained leader.
If anyone is interested please ring Ken on 07971 716254 for an informal chat.
I look forward to hearing from you.
I WOULD like to thank Julie Hursthouse, Weymouth and Portland Community Development Officer for all the help she gives to the Waterside Weymouth Community Forum and all the other groups in the area.
