'Elvis' is coming!

COMMUNITY Meeting on Wednesday, October 20, 7-30pm at the Park Community Centre, Chelmsford Street.

The Forum invites all the residents to attend to discuss any problems within the Park district, including the future roadworks in King Street. We will have updates from the police about the Pact priorities and anything else which is going on in the area.

The Forum would like to thank Coun Joy Stanley for judging the Garden Competition this year. The certificates and results will be announced at this meeting.

THE new ‘Fit as a Fiddle’ exercise to Music for the over 50’s with Elaine South, from Age Concern, which is on Tuesdays, 1pm-2pm, is attracting a good attendance.

The first session is free and then there is a series of 13 spread over the next few months. You can proceed at your own pace.

THE Macmillan Coffee Morning raised over £93.

Thanks to Genny and friends for organising this. It was a very enjoyable morning.

IT is really great that Pat Lea attends the Waterside Singers on Monday afternoons and then takes the evening session of Sing-a-long.

This is a fun filled hour, 6.30pm-7.30pm, when we sing and chat about all the old songs, of course I am far too young to know most of them.

Then at 7.45pm there is Line Dancing with Pat, again is at a gentle pace. We are raising funds for Pat’s charity.

The success story of the Waterside Singers continues and we have several concerts planned. We have to thank Johanna Wolff, our teacher for moulding the group, who when we started as the project stated ‘Can’t sing… neither can we’, into a fine choir who are confident enough to take part in concerts and entertain at old peoples homes.

LAST year the Community Forum had an evening at No 6, King Street and we were very pleased to have Barry Paul, who was Elvis, entertain us.

Well, we have Barry coming to the same venue on Thursday, November 11 at 7.30pm.

Tickets £5, available from the Park Community Centre, Chelmsford Street, Monday to Thursday, 10am-noon and Friday 9.30am-11-30am.

AS some of you might know, due to a recent operation, I have unable to shave for the past twelve weeks and I am currently sporting a beard.

For a bit of fun I asked people at the centre to comment whether I should keep it or shave it off when I am able. which should be within the next month. At the last count the votes are even, so I will leave it for a few more weeks. I would like to thank everybody who has helped me in many different ways during my incapacity. It is good to know who your friends are when you need them.
