It’s the end of the Summer Holidays, and its now time for all the groups and classes to get back into full swing at The Park Community Centre Chelmsford Street, Weymouth. If what you're looking for isn't below, then ring the centre on 01305 839579 , email them on theparkarea@btconnect.com or pop in any weekday morning between 10 and 12. They even have a web site theparkarea.co.uk, a facebook page, a blog  and a twitter, all of which can be accessed from their website.

The Waterside Singers – The Resident Community Choir of the Community Centre were initially going to meet back at the centre on Monday September 10, at 2.30pm, however this has now been brought forward to Monday September 3 at 2.30pm . All those who come along can have their input into the programme and discussion about the start times etc for the coming term. So, if you have never been along before, but always secretly fancied it, now is the ideal time to come along and join in as everyone will be learning new songs and will all be in the same predicament, with some  hitting the right note, and some hitting a few undecided notes until we all work out what the tune is we are meant to be singing.

Exercise Classes
There are so many to choose from, especially if you are planning your Xmas (did I really mention that – so soon!) outfits and need a bit of toning up to get into them. That statement applies to men as well as women btw! Heres a couple of the classes restarting in September.

The Over 50s Exercise to Music with Elaine South at the Park Community Centre on Tuesdays between 1 and 2pm . How to improve your health, balance, strength and mobility – in a fun, relaxed and sociable atmosphere. It doesn’t matter what your abilities are as anyone can join in at their own level - so even if you have a physical condition that can restrict your movement, Elaine will work with you to make sure you get the best out of the class and still feel like one of the group…….. You don't need to have any special equipment or clothing just sensible  footwear and a smile……… All equipment is provided by Elaine.
The class lasts for 60 minutes, the first session is always FREE ! so come along and see if you and Elaine can work together to help you enjoy life independently through your later years.
The cost of a term of the sessions are £35.00 for a 7-week term. The sessions restart on Tuesday September 11 at 1pm . If your just not sure about what’s involved or whether it suits you, why not give Elaine a ring, and talk your concerns through with her, her numbers are 01929 462916 or 07967203581.

Stretch Breathe and Relax – Another class that is suitable for those of mature years as well as helping those of us with creaking joints. They meet every Monday at 9.45am . The next class is on Monday September 10 , the first class is always free , so come along and give it a try, there’s plenty of laughter – you are sure to enjoy it.

On September 15 the Community Centre is running a Charity Stall on the Esplanade .  They would ideally love to receive donations for the Tombola or items for sale on the stall. If you have anything suitable, (I am told this means  good quality and non electrical), please drop it into the Park Community Centre, Chelmsford Street, Weymouth any weekday morning between 10 and 12. The Waterside Newsletter unfortunately had the incorrect day printed for this event.

"Lets Make It" a Success Story!

The “Lets Make It” Project together with volunteers from the area worked together on the Carnival Float for this years Weymouth Carnival. The lorry and driver was donated by Travis Perkins and the decorated  float  won first prize in their category. This achievement surpassed the previous years award of a 2nd in Best Community Float!  So a huge thanks goes out to all who took part in this successful project.

The previous "Lets Make It" project  finished just before the Olympics hit Weymouth, and the results can be seen in the Moon scape flower beds alongside the Pavilion. Visiting MP Mr Bob Neill paid a visit whilst in Weymouth  and talked with the  Chairman of The Waterside Community Forum - Mr John Morse,  Artist Jenny Frances, and Local Councillor Joy Stanley. He told them he was very impressed with the results and with the community  spirit that had  been created whilst carrying out this project. There is another "Lets Make It "Project planned for the near future.  Details to be confirmed soon.

And now for our younger members of our community

The Park District Youth Club (PDY Club)  restarts its new term on Tuesday September 11 at 6.30pm for school years 6 – 9 children. Earlier this summer there was a successful fund raising evening at the Park Community Centre where £188.00 was raised for new equipment. A huge vote of thanks goes out to all those who supported them and gave their time, goods and spent their money. If your child is in this school range then why not consider bringing them along to make new friends, learn new skills, go on trips, all in a safe and fun environment.

So there you go, this is of course just a taster of what is available, and if you have a few spare hours a week they would be delighted to hear from you as well. The centre offers free internet use on the 2 pc's, a selection of secondhand books, and a range of handmade cards, additionally when theres a coffee morning... the cakes are too die for!

Another reason to go along to an Exercise Class!
