TICKETS for the Fish ‘n’ Chip Supper were sold out well in advance of the evening proving just how popular this annual event has become.
The added attraction of the ‘Pancake Tossing’ contests drew some interesting competition especially in the new category of ‘Musical Sychronised Pancake Tossing’ and the teams of two taking up the challenge had been rehearsing avidly beforehand.
The individual pancake tossing challenge was won by Simon Marshall for speed and flair whilst the synchronised pancake tossing was entertaining and hilarious to watch - John Hensby and Chris Rod cavorting to George Formby’s “Little Ukelele” routine and Sue Blackwell and Simon Titley elegantly moving whilst tossing their pancakes to “Bolero”.
Prizes were presented by Rev. Ada Whittock and the synchronised tossing was awarded to Sue Blackwell and Simon Titley, a thoroughly entertaining evening with thanks to Liz Draper who organised the evening and the ladies who worked hard in the kitchen.
John will follow the route of the regiment to Wilhelmshaven where the tanks ended their fighting.
He will then follow his own route to Lubeck on the Baltic, Berlin, Poznan and Warszawa to Domacyny, his father’s home and the whole journey will be approximately 1,800 miles.
John’s trip is a pilgrimage in memory of his father and he wishes to raise some money for worthy causes whilst he is attempting his challenge and has chosen The British Heart Foundation (his father died prematurely of a heart attack), the Royal British Legion and Dors to India, a Portesham based charity which is for all of Dorset, raising money for coastal villagers living in India whose lives were destroyed in the tsunami in 2005.
Please help John to raise money for his chosen charities by sponsoring him for this enormous journey through www.justgiving.com/JOHN-SUROWIEC-Pilgrimage-to-Poland, or by contacting me and I will forward on details.
