AN EXTREMELY well behaved donkey named Jasmine from Weymouth Beach Donkeys joined the large Palm Sunday procession around the village as both congregations from St Peter’s and Portesham Methodist churches came together on a glorious morning for a combined service.

There were hymns and readings at the village green, the square and the duck pond before we finished our service at St Peter’s.

  • A REMINDER of the full day of royal wedding celebrations at the village hall on Saturday, 30 April.

10am -12 noon - A royal wedding themed village café in aid of Methodist church funds serving tea and coffee, bacon butties and royal wedding cake. As well as a raffle, stalls will include produce and bring and buy.

There will also be a display of villagers’ wedding photos organised by Portesham WI.

3 – 5 pm – Children’s tea party with royal wedding themed food, games and fancy dress.

7.30 – 11.30 pm – Barn dance with music from “Teasing the cat”. Licensed bar, ploughman’s supper and raffle.

  • PLEASE remember that Portesham parish council elections take place on Thursday, 5 May 2011.

We now have the opportunity to elect 6 parish councillors to represent Portesham on the Chesil Bank Parish Council so make sure you use your vote to ensure your views are represented.

  • THE Garden club will be holding a plant sale at the village hall on Saturday, 7 May, 10 am – 12 noon. A reminder that their talk on Climbing plants begins at 7.30pm in the Ron Doble room at the village hall on Tuesday, 26 April.
  • THE Women’s section RBL Abbotsbury and Portesham will be meeting at 7.30 pm on Monday, 9 May at Portesham village hall where their subject will be Weymouth’s Tudor House.
  • AN ALL day BBQ, cream teas, face painting and an Easter bonnet competition complete The King’s Arms pub Easter Extravaganza today, Easter Monday. This follows the Oriental night with karaoke, disco and RNLI raffle on Good Friday and Easter egg hunt on Easter Sunday.

There will also be royal wedding celebrations at the pub on Friday, 29 April.
