Portesham primary school seen here enjoying a fabulous royal wedding street party lunch. Children, parents and staff all dressed in red, white and blue to celebrate the event. The children each brought in a plate of food to share… just like the Silver Jubilee street parties in 1977!!

Afterwards all the children were presented with a commemorative royal wedding cup courtesy of POPS.

Continuing the lunch theme, the school will be holding another community lunch on Thursday, 16 June at 1pm.

Come and enjoy roast beef with all the trimmings, followed by cherry and almond crumble with custard, all freshly prepared in the school kitchen. The cost will be £5 per adult. Order forms available from the school office and shortly from the village hall.

THE school also ask that if you have any remaining Tesco “vouchers for schools” please could you send them into the school office by Monday 6 June.

Sainsburys “active kids” vouchers are being issued up until Tuesday 31 May. Please continue to collect these and send them into the school by the end of June so they can be included in their next order.

DI Ludlow tells me that a marvellous £3600 was raised from her annual open garden and grand plant sale at Friar Waddon farmhouse recently.

350 people passed through the gate enjoying coffee and cake in the sunshine together with quiche and ploughman’s lunches. Helpers manned stalls selling house plants, general plants, jewellery, cakes and produce.

All proceeds go to RNLI Weymouth Lifeboats to keep our two magnificent boats ready for service to save lives at sea.

RBL Abbotsbury and Portesham Women’s section will be manning the village café at Portesham village hall on Saturday, 4 June at the usual time of 10am to 12 noon. Tea, coffee and bacon butties on offer.

THE following day, Sunday, 5 June sees the annual St Peter’s church fete and fun dog show which takes place at the village hall and adjoining field from 12 noon to 4 pm. More details to follow next week but we understand there will be a free bouncy castle for children together with a BBQ, bar, designer sandwiches and a teddy bear raffle stall.

A REMINDER of the Bride valley ladies choir lunchtime concert, 12 noon to 1pm on Tuesday, 24 May at St Peter’s Portesham. Tickets available on the door or from Gill Jefferis (871653), £3.50 to include wine and nibbles after the concert.
