THE fundraising committee of St Peter’s Portesham are busy planning their fundraising activities for this year, the first being a village cafe supporting the Living Churchyard initiative on Saturday, 4 February at the usual time of 10 am in the village hall.

In addition to the normal activities there will be a wildlife quiz and information and plans for the next phase of this special section of the churchyard.

A COUPLE of weeks later on Tuesday, 21 February don’t miss one of the social highlights in the Portesham calendar!

7pm sees the start of the St Peter’s fish and chip supper at the village hall to include the now nationally famous world championship pancake tossing to music – this year with an Olympic theme!

Tickets are £8 to include fish, chips and mushy peas followed by apple pie and cream.

The committee are hoping for a record number of competitors so start practising now!

THE King’s Arms, Portesham are also busy planning lots of events for 2012 which will include theme nights, live music, Olympic events, BBQ’s and garden parties. More details to follow when available.

Saturday, 4 February sees 60’s to modern dayTuesday, 14 February will receive a free bottle of wine on their table.

Food special nights for 2012 have also recently begun: Tuesday is “Spice Night”, Thursday “Burger Night” - £10 to include a pint and Sunday’s see a traditional 2 course roast at £10 (£8.95 for main course only). OAP lunch specials are available Monday to Friday with 2 courses for only £7.95. Ring 01305 871342 to make a booking.

IF you’re looking to make an early start to your Spring cleaning, Portesham school will be holding a jumble sale from 11 am to 1 pm on Saturday, 3 March to raise funds for the Nguluwe School Building project in Malawi.

Please bring any jumble donations to the school on Friday, 2 March.

All unsold jumble will be donated to the POPS Bag 2 School collection (unwanted textiles, shoes and handbags) for their next collection on Tuesday, 6 March.

Alternatively, donations of clean clothing are welcome at any time at St Peter’s church Portesham for their ongoing RagBag collection. Bags are supplied at the back of the church.

FOLLOWING the sell out evening of Morgan and West – Time Travelling Magicians, the next Artsreach production at Portesham village hall will be on Saturday, 25 February when 4 world renowned Irish musicians, The Heartstring Quartet, will be entertaining with an evening of both traditional and innovative Irish Folk music.

THE Women’s section of the Royal British Legion Abbotsbury and Portesham branch will be entertained by speaker Chris Wade’s talk on “Ghosts” at 7.30 pm on Monday, 13 February at Portesham village hall.
