I’VE just been sent details of the Abbotsbury and Portesham Royal British Legion Annual lunch for this year which will take place at 12 noon for 12.30 pm on Friday, 30 March at Portesham village hall.

The menu sounds delicious with 3 choices in each of the starter, main course and dessert options: Starter: Tomato and basil soup Smoked salmon pate with salad Trio of fresh melon Main: Roast beef and Yorkshire pudding Poached salmon in white wine Pork in a cider and cream sauce All served with roast or new potatoes, carrots, broccoli and peas Dessert: Tropical fruit salad Chocolate roulade with raspberries Apple pie with custard or cream All this together with tea or coffee and chocolates for £20 a head. Wine and soft drinks will be available to purchase or bring your own (no corkage charge).

SUNDAY 4 March will see another Artsreach presentation in Portesham when Kokoro, the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra new music Ensemble and other musicians from across West Dorset perform at a concert in the village hall as part of their “Chalk Legends” trailblazing event for the Olympic and Paralympic games.

Tickets will be £5 for adults and £2.50 for under 18’s and available from Gill Brignell on 01305 871925 or at gillbrignell@aol.co.uk and at the village cafe on Tuesday, 28 February. The concert starts at 7.30pm.

PORTESHAM school are supporting Nguluwe school in Malawi and their fundraising activities continue with a jumble sale on Saturday, 3 March at 11 am at the school. Please come and support them if you can. If you have any jumble donations please bring them to school on Friday, 2 March.

If you can’t make that date then there will be another jumble sale held by Chesil Scouts at Portesham village hall on Saturday, 24 March at 2.30 pm.

DON’T forget that Lent Safari lunches start today, Monday, 27 February beginning at 12 noon at Weymouth Bay Methodist church, and continue on consecutive Mondays at St Peter’s Langton Herring, St Peter’s Portesham, Methodist church Portesham and finally at St Nicholas’ Abbotsbury on Monday, 26 March.

Soup and bread rolls will be served and sessions will be finished by 2.30pm
