THERE will be two changes to the regular church services at St Peter’s Portesham in the next couple of weeks. On Sunday, 13 May there will be a special Rogation service at St Bartholomew’s chapel, Corton at 3pm, replacing the Evensong service and a Benefice Communion service for Ascension Day at 6.30pm on Thursday, 17 May at St Peter’s.

WELL done to everyone involved with the recent family Summer Bingo evening at Portesham Primary School where a magnificent £303 was raised.

THE next Saturday village cafe will be hosted by the Women’s section of the Royal British Legion on Saturday, 19 May at the usual time of 10am in the village hall.

ADVANCE warning of a very special event taking place in Portesham this summer between the Diamond Jubilee celebrations and the Olympic torch relay.

St Peter’s Church Festival of Flowers and Gardens will take place from Friday, 22 to Sunday 24 June.

There has been a slight change to the programme in that Anna Pavord will be speaking on Saturday, 23 June and the choir concert will be on Friday 22nd.

We are hoping for about twelve gardens to open and if you would like to volunteer yours please contact Liz Draper on 01305 871316. Remember, we are not looking for a Chelsea standard and nobody’s garden is perfect!

On Saturday, 23 June there will be a guided walk around the village with our own Blue Badge Guide, Ann Martin. If you have not been on one of Ann’s walks around the village you are in for a treat; there is so much history and so many fascinating stories to be told about Portesham. Whether you are new to the village or have lived here for years there is always something new to learn.

Tickets will be on sale soon for our ‘Grand Summer Raffle’, with a first prize of £200.00 cash which has been very generously donated by John Barker of Sportarm with many other splendid prizes also on offer. The draw will be made on Sunday, June 24 at 4.30pm in the Rectory garden. Tickets are available from members of the PCC.
