• Margaret's Seat, high on the footpath overlooking Sutton Poyntz, has been damaged yet again. The cause of this is difficult to ascertain, and there have been suggestions of vandalism. It is however difficult to imagine that anyone would take the trouble to walk a kilometre up a steep hill just to inflict wanton damage on a couple of pieces of stone. Whatever the reason for the strange occurrences, it is to be hoped that the seat can be restored to its former glory, for there is no finer place, whatever the time of year, to sit and admire the view over Weymouth Bay.

• I was surprised when another collection of heavy moving equipment appeared on the beach at Overcombe Corner, because I thought the work there had finished. However the Environment Agency are carrying out further flood prevention action on another 150 metres of the beach, eastwards towards the Oasis Cafe. This takes the same form as the previous work, burying large blocks of Portland stone next to the pedestrian walkway then covering them with shingle. While this takes place access to the wall is restricted, but only during working hours, and pedestrians are asked to use the adjacent cycle/walk way on the other side of the Preston Road. We have been lulled into a false sense of security with the recent nice weather, but the February storms are not far away, when the new defences will be sorely needed.

• Recently Maureen Morris and Jacqui Atkinson organised a Macmillan coffee morning at the Mission Hall which was very well attended. Lots of ladies very kindly made cakes and everyone who came was very generous with their donations, both for the coffee and cake and the raffle - which also benefited from some wonderful donated prizes. The total raised for Macmillan, a very worthy cause, was nearly £290. A delighted Maureen and Jacqui would like to thank everyone who helped, donated cakes and prizes and all those who attended, making the event such a great success.

• I mentioned the Weymouth East Scouts and Guides Autumn Jumble Sale on Saturday 1 November in the Scutt Hall at 2pm, and that they needed donations of saleable items of all sorts. Mo and Dave Martin are the people to contact if you can help with items, and their telephone number is 01305 836322, not the number provided previously. Apologies for the wrong number, and thanks for your help.
