The St Andrew’s School fete once again proved to be hugely popular as children, parents and grandparents packed classrooms filled with seasonal goodies.
A huge queue formed for the Kurn’s popcorn and candy floss stall, and the whole family – mum, dad and Natasha - were kept hard at work meeting the demand.
In one classroom a showing of the film Madagascar entertained the children as they awaited their turn to visit Santa in his grotto, while in the hall the school choir sang a lovely selection of Christmas favourites.
Well done to everyone – the PTA, staff, helpers and those who attended – for making this such an enjoyable event.
The St Andrew’s School 200 club held a bumper Christmas draw in Miss Ellis’s Year 5 class.
The first prize of no less than £150, drawn by Sam Chaloner, went to Mr Moxom; the £75 prize, drawn by Jack Montgomery, went to Sarah Breaks; the £50 prize, drawn by Sam Jones, to Mr Greet and the £20 prize, drawn by Alexandra Stevenson, to Mrs Braithwaite.
You have to be in it to win it, so give Mel (832467) a ring if you would like to help to swell school funds in the New Year.
Motor caravans parking for long periods on Bowleaze Coveway have been a problem for quite a while now.
Not only do the vans occupy the kerbside for a considerable time, but I have been told the occupants make free use of toilet facilities belonging to local businesses and fill up nearby litter bins with their rubbish.
Councillors David Mannings and Hazel Bruce have contacted me to say that the recent W&PBC Management Committee meeting discussed the matter at some length.
It was felt that parking meters or short term stay restrictions might cause problems in neighbouring roads, so eventually it was decided to implement a traffic regulation order to ban overnight parking between 12 midnight and 6am.
This will be put in place in the New Year, and will cover those areas from top of the hill in the vicinity of Lookout Cafe through to the bus turning circle where there are not already parking restrictions such as double yellow lines. This seems a very sensible solution to the problem.
This being the festive season, may I take this opportunity to wish everyone the very best for Christmas for and a happy and healthy New Year.
