Weymouth East Scouts, Cubs and Brownies held a Christmas bazaar at the Scutt Hall. Both adults and children worked very hard to make this fund raising event both successful and enjoyable.
Delicious cakes, refreshments, homemade sweets and biscuits were all on sale, plus many stalls selling all manner of goods. Congratulations to all concerned, especially to those who make such an effort for the youngsters of the area and raise much needed funds for the upkeep of the Scutt Hall.
Maureen Bond, Brown Owl of the 2nd Preston Brownies tells me that they need more 7 - 10 year old girls to join them during this Guiding Centenary year, with many exciting activities planned to celebrate this very special event.
If you have a daughter or granddaughter who might like to go along for a 'taster' session of Brownies, please ring Maureen on 83402 or Ruth on 833901.
The annual outdoor festival of lessons and carols was held in front of the Christmas tree on the green at the top of Sutton Poyntz pond.
With decorations on the tree itself plus those on the cottage gable end and the row of cottages behind this is always a beautiful setting for our collective celebration of the much loved Christmas story, led by Rev Tim West and accompanied by the Salvation Army Band.
The carols were followed, in slightly less clement weather, by a number of baptisms in the pond itself, notably those of all four of the Carry family boys - Aaron, Nathan, Haydon and Brendon. Everyone then retired to the Mission Hall for much needed warming refreshments, and all those baptised received certificates and candles to mark the occasion.
John Allan reports that the collection taken during the evening raised over £100 for the Salvation Army.
Let’s hope someone wasn’t locked out over the festive period because a single key on a key ring has been found in Fisherbridge.
The key ring fob is marked with the name RON on one side and Dareglass, Weymouth on the other. If you think the key is yours, give me a ring, and I will see that you are reunited with it.
If you are trying to force all the household waste generated over the festive season into your green wheeled bin, then struggle no more.
Until Friday, 8 January additional sacks will also be collected from alongside your wheeled bin, but remember to recycle as much as possible.
