Preston & Sutton Poyntz

Coffee and conversation helps the Sutton Poyntz Society

The Sutton Poyntz coffee morning at the Mission Hall allowed another chance to meet friends old and new over a cup of coffee. It also posed the difficult question of what to choose from the array of delicious homemade cakes on offer!

In addition to the opportunity to catch up on news and views around the village, there was also the chance to view a display of beautiful embroidery, textiles and jewellery created by Brenda Pennington of Gemini Creations who lives on Plaisters Lane.

These were much admired, and Brenda herself was on hand to describe the hard work and, it must be said, skill which went into their creation.

The next – and last of the current season – coffee morning will take place on Friday, 2 April between 10.30 and 12 in the Mission Hall. Admission is £1.50, which includes the refreshments, and proceeds help with the work of the Sutton Poyntz Society.

The next Team Walk will take place on Saturday, 20 March at West Knighton, starting from outside the New Inn at 1pm.

The walk will be about 4 miles in length, and I know from personal experience that the footpaths in that area are mainly flat and very rural. After all the recent rain it could be muddy, so stout footwear is recommended.

If you go along you are sure to enjoy yourself, not least because of the warm welcome you will receive. If you need any further information, contact Terry and Jean Watson on 832792.

A coffee morning will be held in Abbeyfield’s Macpherson House at 8 Wyke Oliver Road on Saturday 20 March between 10am and 11.30am.

Stalls will include bric a brac, cakes and books together with raffle, and entry costs 50p which includes coffee and biscuits. Proceeds will go towards Residents Amenities Fund.

June and Joan will be holding an Easter and birthday card sale after the 10am service on Sunday, 21 March at St Andrew’s Church.

Many new designs are available, just right for that special occasion.

The Scouts Spring Jumble Sale will take place on Saturday, 27 March at 2pm in the Scutt Hall.

All the proceeds go towards the upkeep of the Scutt Hall for the benefit of the youngsters, and this is one of the major fundraisers of the year.

If you have any items in good condition that you would like to donate they would be very pleased to receive them. Give Betty a ring on 833614, or deliver to the Scutt Hall most early evenings.
