Record results from Scout Beach Stall

Despite the inclement weather, the Weymouth East Scouts and Guides Beach Stall raised a record amount in support of the Scutt Hall used by the youngsters.

Betty Hennessey wrote to say “We did so well didn’t we? £726, the most we’ve raised so far”. I don’t think anyone would argue with that sentiment, but it was also due to a great deal of hard work. Betty would like to thank her ‘loyal band of helpers’ – Beryl, Betty, Carol, Chris, Dilys, Esme, Gill and Mora – plus Colin for his morning shift and Simon Grant-Jones who provided the transport, delivering the stall and goods first thing in the morning and returning late in the afternoon.

Betty is also grateful to everyone who provided items for sale and, of course, those who bought them. Without volunteers such as Betty and her helpers the Scutt Hall, the home of the scouts and guides, could not be kept in such excellent condition.

The June Draw of the St Andrew’s School 200 club took place in Mrs Shaw's year 2 class.

Paris Montrose drew the £50 prize for Mrs Libby Lake, Jules Holloway helped Mr and Mrs G Howlett to win £30, and Taryn Foster selected Mrs Limb for the £15 prize.

All the money from the monthly draw goes towards providing facilities for the children, so contact Helen Webb at helencwebb@fsmail.net if you would like to help.

There will be a fun filled, water based afternoon in the Wessex Waterworks in Sutton Poyntz on Saturday 9 July between 2pm and 6pm, with something for everyone, adults and children alike.

The event is being organised by Richard Backwell to raise funds for his Okhle Village Trust charity, to help bring fresh water to villages in northern Nepal.

There will be lots of games for the children - duck racing, pond dipping, target water pistols and much more. Richard has also gathered 500 2 litre milk cartons (1 litre for children) which he is inviting anyone to carry, or cheer on those carrying, one or two cartons around the spring head above the village. This mile walk will demonstrate the daily struggle of the Nepalese people to maintain adequate supplies of drinking water.

The cost for adults is £5 and £1 for children, and this includes a delicious cream tea. This will be a marvellous afternoon out in picturesque scenery and all for a good cause. Everyone is welcome, and if you haven’t visited Sutton Poyntz before, or perhaps not seen the Waterworks then make sure you take this opportunity.
