Recently the Dorchester Country Market moved, for one morning, to the Preston Village Hall.
On display were was an amazing range of delicious homemade cakes, jams, marmalade and chutney, craftwork, free range eggs, cut flowers, fresh fruit and seasonal vegetables. There was also wide variety of and herbs, plus, for those needing refreshment after viewing everything, a very welcome cup of tea.
Orders were also being taken for Christmas fare - cakes, puddings and mince pies – and for the market parcel scheme. Stella told me that she delivers locally parcels containing such items as cooked food, hyacinth bowls, cakes, savouries, preserves and eggs. These make a very nice Christmas gift for family or friends, and she recalled battling through the snow last year to deliver one to a 90 year old couple who were surprised and pleased to see her and delighted to receive the gift. The parcels are made to order, so contact Stella (812050) or Maureen (834012) to arrange yours. The parcels can even be delivered nationally via another country market!
The Dorchester Country Market takes place every Friday morning between 8.30am and 11am in the Corn Exchange, Dorchester where everyone is very friendly and helpful. If you can’t wait for them to return to Preston, drop in and see them there. The last one before Christmas is on Friday 23 December.
Chris Russell, Secretary of Sutton Poyntz Village Women’s Institute, tells me that they will be holding a Collectibles Exhibition in the Mission Hall on Saturday 22 October between 10.30am and 4pm.
Admission is £2 for and that includes tea and biscuits. In addition to the Exhibition there will be a cake stall and a raffle. Put the date in your diary; you will be sure of a warm welcome.
The October Draw of the St Andrew’s School 200 club took place in Mrs Jackson and Mrs Warren's Year 1 class.
Cameron Webb drew the £50 prize for Mrs Sue Stevens, Erin Purnell helped Mrs Bet Moore to win £30, and Ryan Abel selected Phil and Angie Roberts for the £15 prize.
All the money from the monthly draw goes towards providing facilities for the children, and the 'new Club year' starts in November so contact Helen Webb at helencwebb@fsmail.net if you would like to help.
