Bonnie Symonds has held another of her popular and very successful coffee mornings in aid of the Save the Children Charity.
A large number of people attended, and in addition to enjoying the good company and refreshments, also purchased many of the wide range of donated goods on sale, some of which will, I am sure, turn up in stockings on Christmas morning.
Such was their generosity that morning raised nearly £400. Congratulations to Bonnie and all her helpers for this result.
The annual Weymouth East Scout Autumn Jumble Sale at the Scutt Hall was another resounding success, under the usual stewardship of Betty Hennessey.
Betty reports that thanks to the efforts of those who donated so much for them to sell, her dedicated band of helpers who helped sort the goods and prepare the hall and those who turned out in numbers to purchase items, over £430 was raised to help towards the upkeep of the Hall for use by the youngsters. They should be very proud of their efforts. Unsold items were donated to the Lantern Charity, which has expressed its gratitude for the gift.
Following the sale Betty was taken quite poorly, and after an unpleasant time is now on the road to recovery. I know everyone will join with me in wishing her a swift return to full health.
The St Andrews School Parent Teacher association will be holding a Christmas Fayre on Friday 2 December between 5pm and 7pm at the School.
Everyone is welcome to drop in, and there will be lots of stalls of all sorts, a raffle, the chance to take the weight off your feet and enjoy some refreshment, plus, it rumoured, Father Christmas in attendance taking requests for deliveries on the big day.
Proceeds from the Fayre will go towards facilities for the children, so make a point of going along for an enjoyable evening and to support the School.
Our own four ice maidens - Rosemarie, Julie, Tomina and Yvonne - are organising another ‘Snowball’ to get the New Year off to a flying start.
This is one of Preston’s premier events so mark the date Saturday 7 January in your diaries now. The ball will take place at the Hotel Prince Regent starting at 7pm and there will be dancing to live music from the 'Foursome' – and before you ask, this band is NOT Rosemarie, Julie, Tomina and Yvonne! Tickets, costing £22.50 including a buffet, can be booked by phoning 837289 or 832482. Get in early and avoid possible disappointment as tickets sell like hot cakes.
Proceeds from the ball will be going to St Andrew's Community Angels, a local and very worthwhile initiative, so do go along, have a good time and help the Angels into the bargain.
