Preston Pre-School have a busy time!

Preston Pre-School children wait to speak to Father Christmas! Preston Pre-School children wait to speak to Father Christmas!

Helen Plested tells me that the Preston Pre-School has been very busy in the run-up to Christmas. On Saturday 3 December they held a very successful and well attended barn dance, and in the process raised £530. They are planning to use this money to buy outside equipment for the children and to enhance the outside play area. Then on Thursday 8 December at the Christmas coffee morning it was the children’s turn. They all worked very hard to put on a performance of 'The First Christmas' for their parents, and followed this by singing Christmas songs. The term ended with a trip to the pantomime on Wednesday 14 December – oh yes it did! – followed by a Christmas party at which Father Christmas found time in his busy schedule to drop in. The Pre-School still has places available for next year, so if you would like your children to join this happy and active group, contact Helen.

Following my comments about the Pelican crossing outside the Village Hall, a reader contacted me about the ‘new’ Littlemoor Road. She points out that during the recent rain a stream appeared, which runs right across the road, and she suggests that in a cold snap this could ice over and create a significant hazard to drivers. I had a look – it’s near the 40mph sign heading towards Littlemoor - and there is definitely a lot of water on the road. Perhaps it should have been channelled under the carriageway?

The next in the winter round of coffee mornings organised by the Sutton Poyntz Society takes place on Friday 4 January in the Mission Hall between 10.30 am and noon. In addition to the chance to enjoy the delicious refreshments and chat to friends old and new, there will also be the opportunity to view an exhibition of the history of the Preston Pantomime Group. The Group performed their first pantomime in 1979 and are still going strong. This promises to be a fascinating glimpse back into history, and I am not just saying that because I am organising the event! Come along and judge for yourself. You will enjoy a warm welcome.
