Weatherbury Singers ladies entertain patients at Joseph Weld Hospice

Puddletown

  • The ladies from The Weatherbury Singers attended the Joseph Weld Hospice on the afternoon of Saturday, December 12 where they performed a small selection of Christmas music.

This was thoroughly enjoyed by staff and patients.

The Singers were also extremely pleased to donate the sum of £250 which they had raised in a charity raffle during one of their concerts.

  • VOLUNTEER drivers for the surgery's Friends of the Practice scheme offer a fantastic service that enables members of the community to travel to and from clinical appointments in Puddletown and Dorchester.

As there is limited local transport this service is greatly appreciated by housebound residents and people who are unable to use the buses.

Plans are afoot to extend this service so that local residents could become more involved in the community and leisure activities, and therefore feel less socially isolated.

It is planned to introduce a volunteer driving scheme for Puddletown and all surrounding villages, including Tolpuddle, Tincleton, Dewlish. Affpuddle, Briantspuddle and Bockhampton.

A public meeting is to be held to gauge interest and enlist support from community members who may like to be involved in driving or coordinating roles.

This will be held in the village hall on Friday, February 12 from 10am until noon.

If you would like more information, contact Friends of the Practice coordinator Sue Brazier on 01305 368908.

Tolpuddle

  • A GLASS-ETCHING workshop will be held in the village hall on Friday, February 12 from 2pm until 4pm.

Contact Liz on 01305 848464 or Clare on 849569 to book.

  • SOUP and sweet lunches continue on Friday, February 19 from noon until 1.30pm.

Bere Regis

  • PURBECK district councillor Peter Wharf reports that the district council has offered to install two flower planters in Bere Regis.

These will be replanted twice a year with seasonal flowers by Purbeck district council's contractors at no cost to the parish.

For its part the parish has agreed to water the planters regularly.

The parish council has accepted this kind offer and will be discussing with the gardening club some potential locations for these planters.

Many thanks to everyone for their patience and toleration over the Christmas bank holiday period.

Over this period, SITA, who collect the rubbish, had very considerable difficulties in some of the outlying areas of the district, due to ice preventing the lorries from physically going up a number of hills!

Fortunately we were relatively lightly affected with just one or two areas having their collections made a day later than scheduled. If we manage to avoid any more severe cold weather this should not happen again.

Surgeries are held on the first Saturday of every month. These are held at the communal Lounge in Turberville Court in Bere Regis from 9.30am to 10am and in the Bloxworth Village Club from 10.30am to 11am.

If you have any questions or queries related to the business of Purbeck District Council please come along.

If anyone wants to contact Peter Wharf and cannot get to the surgery his email address is peterwharf@hotmail.com.

  • CHRISTINE Whitfield reports for the scout group: The beavers visited the Margaret Green Animal Sanctuary at Church Knowle and saw the animals that are there for re-homing and the beavers were lucky enough to pet a cat, a rabbit and a hedgehog.

This visit is part of our work towards gaining the Animal Friend badge and we will be visited by a veterinary nurse to give a talk on animal care and welfare.

With only two weeks into the term, most of the cubs have already completed all the elements to gain their Emergency Aid Stage 3.

Coming up is the Map Reader badge and Global Conservation. At the end of 2009, the scouts went ice skating at the Bournemouth International Centre and great fun was had by all.

There have been a few changes in the leadership line-up in scouts with Neil Unitt-Jones, assistant scout leader swapping roles with Mike Whitfield, scout leader.

This exchange will give scouts a fresh injection of new blood without losing any of its current team. Bere Regis Conservation Group have managed to do a bit of clearing along the edge of the riverside walk and has invited, amongst others, the scouts to help clear and clean up this area. This activity is happening on Saturday, February 20, and the scouts that take part will be able to count this service towards the six hours of community service needed as a part of their Community Challenge badge.

The riverside walk is enjoyed by many villagers and is very much a village amenity.

Bingo in February is on Friday, February19. Any enquiries please contact Bet Moss on 01929 471186 If anyone would like any further information about the individual sections, please contact Chris Gall 01305 772634 or Christine Whitfield 01929 472159
