Ron Wrigley and David Betts came along to receive the cheque, presented on behalf of the school by deputy head teacher Leif Pallister.

The author of Dorset Maps focuses on the county maps covering nearly 500 years of mapmaking.

There will be a bar and tea and coffee will be available before and during the talk.

  • BURNS Night celebrations were a great success with 56 guests attending.

The haggis was duly addressed, followed by the Selkirk grace Dancing to reels with the music of Rainbarrow followed the meal.

There are a fantastic amount of old photographs, rolling slide shows, village organisation archives and photographs of Bere Regis school spanning many years.

There are many amazing photographs of the watercress industry in the village, world war 2 in Bere Regis and village carnivals.

The winners of the photographic competition will be on display, together with lots more including images never seen before.

  • CHRISTINE Whitfield reports for the scout group: Our cub leader, Greta Richardson, was recently presented with her five years service award by district commissioner, Alan Oxley.

We would all like to thank Greta for all her efforts over the last five years and hope that she will continue with us.

The Scouts have already started the ‘Remember Them – Phase 2’ project carrying out initial research on the computers at Bere Regis School.

During this project we hope to be adding more detail to some of the previous findings and also researching the names on the memorials at Winterborne Kingston and Briantspuddle.

We would also welcome any information that anyone has on any of the men listed on the three memorials.

If you can help in any way or would like further information, please do not hesitate to contact us.

It’s that time of year again when Tesco and Sainsburys are issuing vouchers which we are collecting to redeem for new equipment. Please help us again this year by collecting these.

The Scout Group Jumble Sale, organised by Kim Benjafield, raised £213 Thank you to everyone who supported it.

The Ladies of Bere Regis Women’s Institute organised a Pancake Race and Coffee Morning – despite the pouring rain!

We were thrilled to receive a phone call from Sally to say that the W.I. wanted the proceeds of this event, £161, to go to the Scout Group for the Remember Them – Phase 2 trip to Belgium and France later this year. We really do appreciate this.

Bet and her wonderful team continue to organise fortnightly bingo at the Scout Hut. The scout group really appreciates this support.

Any enquiries please contact Bet Moss on 01929 471186.
