  • AN AUCTION of promises on April 27 filled the village hall with a competitive audience of bidders, who were urged on by Gary Batt of Hy Duke to spend their money on garden designs, food, drink, fishing, outings and other delights in the seventy lots, Diana Wilson tells me.

We were teased unmercifully and kept in fits of laughter by Gary, she added.

There were another 43 lots in the silent auction which created a great deal of interest.

The total raised, after expenses, was £3,500 with more to come.

Many thanks to everyone involved in providing items for sale, promises and donations, and all the workers led by Mary who put hours of work into organising the auction in aid of the urgent repairs to the church.
