  • GARDENS around the village were opened to the public in aid of St John's church.

This lovely afternoon raised a stunning £550 together with profits from cream teas served in the Manor gardens.

Puddletown

  • CARNIVAL week has started, and on Tuesday, July 6 there is bingo in the village hall. Doors open 7pm, eyes down at 7.30pm.

On Thursday, July 8 is the duck race from 6.30pm at the Backwater.

On Friday, July 9 there is a bar, band and barbecue at the beer tent from 7pm until late.

Saturday, July 10 is carnival day itself from 2pm on the recreation field.

The procession starts at 6pm, also from the recreation field.

Bere Regis

  • BERE Regis Football Club celebrates its 125th anniversary in 2010 and is celebrating the occasion with a number of events at the sports club in July.

The club was formed in 1875 and currently plays in the Dorset Saturday League Division One.

It comes under the umbrella of Bere Regis Sports Club who are moving to its newly-developed social club on June 21

.

The new clubhouse is adjacent to the old clubhouse at the recreation ground.

The club is celebrating its anniversary with a number of events that began with a senior teams presentation night with entertainment and a bingo on the following evening.

On Monday, July 5 there is a bridge and whist evening from 7.30pm

On Tuesday, July 6 and on Wednesday, July 7 there are pool and darts competitions.

On Thursday, July 8 is the pool and darts competition final.

On Friday, July 9 there is the Dorchester Evening League cricket final and hog roast.

On Saturday, July 10 there is league cricket between Bere Regis cricket club and Blandford 11.

Finally, on Sunday, July 11 there is a family day and barbecue with youth teams football presentations followed by World Cup Final on the 50 inch big screen.

The trustees and committee members of the club extend an open invitation to members, prospective members and guests to visit the new clubhouse and enjoy this beautiful village facility.

  • GARDENS throughout the village are open to the public on Sunday, July 11 from 10am until 5pm.

Programmes are available priced £4 each from the Drax Hall.

There will be refreshments at the hall all day, and a grand draw at 4pm.

All profits will go to the Alzheimer's Society.

  • HEALTH awareness is the theme of the Pop in Place's Fit for Life initiative in conjunction with the doctors' surgery.

The practice nurse and practice manager will be on hand to offer help and support, and to listen and advise on health issues that concern you.

The next meeting is on Friday, July 30 at 10.30am.

  • SCOUTS group is organising a Very Dorset Dinner in the scout hut in Elder Road on Saturday, July 24 at 7.30pm.

Dorset recipes will be featured, and as much Dorset produce as possible will be used.

The meal will be prepared, cooked and served by the scouts to raise money for their trip to Belgium on Remembrance Day later this year as part of the Remember Them community centenary war memorial project.

  • WILD West was the theme of this year’s family camp for the scout group held over the bank holiday weekend.

The nine teams made totem poles, dream catchers and camp blanket patches.

They went rafting or rifle shooting, panned for gold, played loads of games, went on a horseshoe hunt, ate large amounts of food and drank gallons of tea.

The scouts entered two teams in the district banner competition and one of the teams came joint first and is due to attend the county competition later this month.

Although Tesco and Sainsburys vouchers have now finished, the scouts are still collecting them from the people who have been saving them.

  • THE scout group is to hold a barn dance at Pampered Pigs, Rye Hill, Bere Regis on Saturday, September 18.

The band is booked and this will be Black Sheep.

Tickets will be £10 for adults and £5 for young people and includes a ploughman’s supper. Drinks will be available from the licensed bar.

  • A CURRY and horse racing night for adults only is to be put on by the scout group on Saturday, October 16 at the scout hut.

Tickets will be £7.50 per person and you are invited to bring your own drinks.

  • BINGO evenings are on Friday, July 9 and Friday, July 23 in the scout hut.

Everyone is made to feel welcome at this regular, local event so please do come along and join us.
