  • COLONEL Nigel ffitch QVRM TD came along to Bladen social club to receive a cheque for £1,800 on behalf of Help for Heroes.

The money had been raised largely through the regular fund-raising coffee mornings held at the club.

Colonel ffitch said that the money raised was a fantastic sum raised in a small community like Briantspuddle, and would be used to help injured soldiers to rebuild their lives.

The soldiers really appreciate all the support they receive, and it makes them feel that they are doing a good job, he added.

Sue Jeanes thanked Colonel ffitch for coming to receive the cheque on behalf of the charity, and added her thanks to the dozen or so people who regularly help to raise money at the coffee mornings.

  • PARISH council members have been continuing efforts to try and secure necessary additional safety measures along the B3390.

The county council have agreed to add the council’s request to extend the 30mph speed limit to its list.

The parish council’s request for a stop sign at Waddock Cross was once again refused.

The village’s county councillor, Mrs Alex Brenton, recently held a site meeting with the chair of the county council’s roads and rights of way committee, Peter Finney and transport officers to discuss concerns about safety at Hurst Bridge.

.

Highways officers did not agree with the parish councils request for a priority system due to the cost of the work being more than the cost of repairs to the bridge over the past ten years due to accidents.

In the county council’s view this was not cost effective.

However, it was agreed to enhance road markings to accentuate the narrowness of the bridge.

The council would like to hear from anyone in the village that use the mobile library service in order to help the parish council to fight any threatened closure should it be raised in the future.

Members were made aware of the core strategy update by Purbeck District Council.
